character: Giovanni
canon: Enigma Variations
summary: San Giustiniano Alta, an old seafront town on an unnamed Italian island, is the setting for the first chapter of Paul's story, the story of his first love, Giovanni, the cabinetmaker whom everyone knows by the name, Nanni. The summer he comes to their house to restore a family heirloom, an old desk, Paul unknowingly becomes both an actor and a spectator in the secret love affair between Giovanni and Paul's own father who have been involved romantically with each other for years. All of town knows, Paul's mother knows and detests it, this knowledge eventually leading to the burning-down of the family house and the vanishing act of Giovanni who, along with his younger brother Ruggiero, flees from the discrimination and hate to Canada on Paul's father's urging. But not before the local Mob has led a hunt on them, rounding them up and humiliating and beating them for what everyone knows: Giovanni is gay. During the summer, he and Paul's father, the Dottore, would buy a few weeks together after Paul, his older brother and mother had vacated the island for the mainland. During the winter, the two would meet in secret on the mainland. Their relationship was a devoted one, they were each other's ill-timed only loves.
canon point: Defaulting to the summer when he is restoring Paul's family desk, before the burning-down of the house and his disappearance. Age, late twenties. Can also play from the period right after he flees San Giustiniano, before or while he's settling in Canada. Age, early thirties.
notes: As the character is given no family name in canon, for the sake of easy RP interaction and introductions, I've given him the surname, Rizzo, which is a common name out of the southern Italian regions.

physical affection: Go for it. Reactions may vary depending on CR. Generally the friendly sort.
physical violence: Sure, give me a heads up if you're aiming to do severe damage.
relationships: M/M, if that's where we end up. Outside memes that are specifically designed for it, I prefer not to assume any romantic CR unless relevant canon mates. Open to adult Pauls.
psychic info: No shields. Ask if you need to know anything in particular.
magical info: No magical powers.
medical info: Nothing relevant. He's in good health.
offensive subjects/triggers: Giovanni's story comes with warnings for homophobia, discrimination, violence and parental death. The overt homophobia hasn't, at the canon point I'm taking him from, escalated too much yet, but runs as more of an undercurrent. Let me know if you need me to downplay it or not mention it at all. He has also had a relationship to a twenty year older man since he himself was 19, so if such an age difference squicks you, let me know and I'll avoid tagging you.
